Teamwork and diversity is key to delivering successful Training Systems projects at Systematiq.
Steve Mackey is Systematiq’s Training Systems Manager, bringing with him over two decades of experience from the Australian Army. His military career, which spanned 23 years, encompassed a variety of operational and training roles. Prior to joining Systematiq, he also worked as the National Training Manager at Linfox, where he spent eight years. In 2022 he joined Systematiq, where he now plays a crucial role in delivering expert training solutions to clients.
Steve’s primary focus at Systematiq is ensuring that clients receive high-quality training solutions on time and within budget. He stresses the importance of timeliness and efficiency.
“It’s about ensuring clients get their product on time, to a high-quality standard.”
As the Training Systems Manager, Steve oversees various training projects and a large team of training developers, designers, and delivery practitioners, to ensure our projects are executed smoothly to meet the specific needs of clients. Collaboration lies at the core of this.
“We work hard to be approachable and build great relationships with our clients,” he notes. “This lets us deliver to a high standard across all aspects of training consultation and delivery, and ensures our clients are satisfied with the end result.”
Steve also comments on the value of Systematiq’s deep expertise across both defence and commercial sectors.
“Our background in defence allows us to bring valuable insights into the corporate world, and vice versa,” he explains.
“We have a great mixture of people that allows us to bring a diversity of expertise and experience to a project”.
This diversity enables the team to approach projects with a collaborative mindset, working in partnership with clients rather than merely completing tasks assigned.
“Rather than just doing the task, we aim for a partnership mindset with our clients and work towards their outcomes.”
Looking ahead, Steve identifies key challenges in the industry.
“From a defence perspective, industry is now expected to deliver more rapidly and produce a range of training products according to the Commonwealth’s standard.”
“As a defence consultancy,” he continues, “It’s essential to be responsive to the client’s needs as the Australian defence context develops.”
He comments that Systematiq’s lean structure and extensive network will be an asset in these uncertain times.
“Being a lean company allows us to be flexible enough to meet a changing market and respond to shifting Commonwealth demands.”
On the corporate front, Steve believes that staying ahead of technological advancements, particularly in the e-learning space, is crucial. He stresses the importance of incorporating emerging technologies like AI into training methodologies.
“We’re leading clients through the process of developing their internal training programs and materials, to maximize their potential and training outcomes,” he comments.
“That means supporting them with the development of their internal training, and how to get the best out of their resources.”
“Being across the most recent technological developments and information,” he continues, “will be essential, in order to guide the client with our specialised expertise.”
